Bears Host Annual Raising The B.A.R. Invitational – California Golden Bears Athletics

The annual tournament highlights the need for diversity in college women’s basketball and spotlights Black female head coaches. WBB11/13/2025 12:21 PM | By: Cal Athletics Cal Plays Charlotte Saturday 3 P.M. PT This weekend, the California women’s basketball team will host its fifth annual Raising The B.A.R. (basketball, activism, representation) Invitational. The Golden Bears (2-1) will face off against Charlotte (2-2) in the opening day of the tournament on Saturday at 3 p.m. PT at Haas Pavilion.   Approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Cal’s game, Harvard will take Oakland in the night’s other matchup.  The winners and losers of each game will then play each other on Sunday with the consolation game taking place at 5 p.m. PT and the championship game tipping off about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the consolation game.   An all-tournament team and tournament MVP will be announced directly after the championship game.   Cal head coach Charmin Smith created the tournament to elevate the voices, stories and people in the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging space, highlight the lack of diversity in women’s basketball college coaching and spotlight Black female head coaches around the country.
