Box score, MVP, and Twitter reactions as the Cats fall to UNC-Wilmington

The Kentucky Wildcats played their first of two games at Rupp Arena in the month of December this afternoon as they welcomed the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks to town. The new court may have looked great, but the Cats did not in the first half. For the first time all season, this group looked rough offensively, and we have to give credit to UNCW for forcing this game to be played exactly how they wanted it to be. Kentucky was led by Tre Mitchell for most of the half until Reed Sheppard provided a boost late in the half to help close the gap heading into the locker room, 41-33. The Seahawks controlled much of the second half as well, forcing Kentucky into difficult shots on defense and getting whatever they wanted on the offensive end of the court, eventually coming away with the 80-73 victory. Ultimately, the weaknesses on the defensive end of the court really shined bright tonight. Kentucky has to get better on that end of the floor to even come close to reaching the ceiling many think that they have. A brutal loss, though. No way around it.
