CARLTON — A Fond du Lac Reservation man is accused of soliciting minors and sharing child pornography through social media and messaging applications.Nathan Paul Barney, 24, has been summoned to appear in State District Court on nine felony charges after investigators said they recovered dozens of videos and images containing suspected child sexual abuse material.According to a criminal complaint, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension first received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in January. The report, which was then referred to the Fond du Lac Police Department, indicated that Barney had uploaded suspected child pornography to Snapchat in October 2022. The BCA served subpoenas on Snapchat, Google and T-Mobile for user data, confirming Barney’s identity and location, according to the complaint. Authorities noted Barney also was “associated” with past tips from NCMEC in 2015 and 2016, when he was a juvenile, though no further details were included on those incidents.A search warrant was obtained for Barney’s Facebook records, with investigators reportedly discovering that he was a member of several groups advertised as being for kids and teens.
