Clarksburg man faces soliciting charges after messaging Snapchat account posing as 14-year-old

GRAFTON, W.Va. — A Harrison County man faces charges for soliciting a minor for allegedly attempting to message a 14-year-old on social media for explicit content. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office announced that Travis Grant Jr., 20, of Clarksburg, has been charged with soliciting a minor via computer for allegedly requesting explicit material from a fake Snapchat account that was posing as a 14 year old girl. According to a criminal complaint, officers with the Grafton Police responded to a Walnut Street apartment for an alleged “sexual assault.” Once arriving and speaking with officers, two females eventually spoke with deputies, who explained that one of them set up a fake Snapchat account pretending to be 14 to talk to Grant. Deputies later confirmed that Grant believed the female was 14 based on her profile and messages while asking her for explicit material based on saved screenshots. Officials made a preservation request to Snapchat to preserve all records of messages between all parties involved and search warrants were obtained for multiple cell phones. Grant is currently in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail with bond set at $20,000.
