Maharashtra’s Parth Salunkhe beat Services’ Sukhchain Singh 7-3 to win the Nationals gold. Vinayak Padmadeo Tribune News Service New Delhi, October 9 Parth Sushant Salunkhe was exultant as he stood tall on the podium after winning the individual gold medal in men’s recurve round of national archery championships today. Parth, who represented Maharashtra, beat Services’ Sukhchain Singh 7-3 to win the Nationals gold. Madhya Pradesh’s Amit Yadav won the bronze. The 17-year-old was trained by Sushant, his father, for a good period of 2014 till 2017 after his initial coach quit his training school — New English Medium School within months of joining in 2012. A year or so passed with little or no help, then Sushant took charge. A former national-level silver medallist in kickboxing, Sushant wanted his son to pursue his dreams. Relying on YouTube tutorials, he first taught himself and then imparted the skills to his son. Life changed after he was scouted during the Khelo India trials in Aurangabad.
