Dave Stewart is as Oakland as it gets. As a kid, that meant hopping the Coliseum fences to watch Reggie Jackson. As an adult, it meant becoming a champion and having his number retired with the team he idolized. “Born and raised in Oakland,” he said. “Born and raised in the Coliseum.” In 2021, the Oakland City Council turned down Stewart’s bid to buy a 50 percent share of the Coliseum as a backup plan to keep the A’s in Oakland, opting instead to sell it to the African American Sports and Entertainment Group. Years later, this Oakland native is now watching the A’s pack up and begin a move to Las Vegas. Stewart can only shake his head now that it’s come to this. “I’m just disappointed in the whole process,” he said. “I have a personal experience in trying to do something in the city, with the city, and I don’t have any bad experiences with John Fisher.
