Under the directive issued on November 28, OTT platforms have been given a 90-day deadline to ensure that their apps remain linked to the active SIM number present in the user’s device. Failure to comply could invite penal action under existing telecom cybersecurity regulations, according to ET. Recommended Stories The new rules also mandate that web and desktop versions of these apps must log users out every six hours, requiring fresh authentication through QR code pairing. The DoT said this step is necessary to prevent misuse of messaging platforms on devices where no SIM is present — a loophole that has been exploited for cross-border cybercrime.
