Welsh first minister Mark Drakeford has today admitted that he does have WhatsApp downloaded on his Senedd-issued phone after telling the Welsh Parliament that he did not use the app. Yesterday in the Senedd, when asked by the Welsh Conservatives whether the government had used WhatsApp to make decisions during Covid and if that material was still accessible, Drakeford said: “I know, in my case, I’ve never had any deletion arrangements on the phone, because I would have no idea how to make it happen. I don’t use WhatsApp either.” Leader of the Welsh Conservatives Andrew RT Davies posted a picture on social media appearing to show Drakeford’s WhatsApp profile. Promptly, Drakeford issued a letter to the presiding officer, Elin Jones, asking to have the record amended. He said: “I would like to clarify that I have WhatsApp downloaded on my Senedd-issued mobile phone.
