EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Emergency Management Officials in Evansville have shared a 30 minute video of the Morton Ave. warehouse fire.It briefly starts with an image from 14 News’ coverage of the fire, then shows drone footage that officials say provided live situational awareness feed for fire crews.They say it helped fire officials for more than three hours in containing the large blaze.Thursday coverageWednesday coverage Tuesday coverageMonday coverageOn the morning of the fire, they set up at a distance from the warehouse and started flying.The goal was to show where the fire was the most serious and where firefighters need to start working.By showing the entire scene, they also know where it’s safe to be.They can toggle infrared to show the heat locations and places where flaming debris is being cast off.With a fire this large, Cliff Weaver with EMA says they need these drones.Even ten years ago, they would have been stuck on the ground describing the scene and planning based on verbal commands.“This is just a new technology, and I anticipate in the near future, pretty much every fire truck or police car will have one,” said Weaver.He says the drones also help with damage assessment.This drone was…
