England and Lionesses beaten in World Cup Final – Tottenham Hotspur

Bethany England’s Women’s World Cup campaign with the Lionesses came to an end with a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Final on Sunday. Lauren Hemp almost gave England the lead in the 16th minute, but her looping effort crashed off the crossbar. Spain went ahead when Olga Carmona picked out the bottom right corner with just under half an hour played. The strike was too accurate for Mary Earps to get a hand on it. Alessia Russo and Rachel Daly made way for the Lionesses at half time, replaced by Chloe Kelly and Lauren James as Hemp moved into the number nine role and Sarina Wiegman changed England to four at the back. In the 68th minute, a VAR check concluded that Kiera Walsh handled the ball in the England penalty area and Spain were awarded a penalty kick, which Jennifer Hermoso stepped up to take, but Earps made a brilliant save, diving to her left to catch the ball.
