03 August 2026 Four Northern Irish athletes have secured their selections for the forthcoming European Athletic Championships which will be held in Birmingham from the 10th of August. Kate O’Connor (Dundalk St Gerards) fresh from her Commonwealth Games gold medal win in the heptathlon will be aiming to continue her streak of winning medals at major championships. She will face stiff competition from World Indoor gold medallist Sofie Dokter from the Netherlands. Nick Griggs (CNDR) runs in a very strong 5000m field which will include Olympic and world champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Lauren Roy (Fast Twitch AC) has has been selected for both the individual 100m, 200m as well as the women’s 4x100m relay team along with Jenna Breen (City of Lisburn AC) who has been selected as a non-travelling reserve for the relay team. Rachel McCann (North Down AC) coached by Ian Neely, has had to withdraw from the 400m individual and 4x400m relay due to an unfortunate injury!
