LOWER WOODS HARBOUR, N.S. — There was lots of laughter and squeals of delight as children, parents and grandparents gathered at the Clubhouse Playground on Station Road in Woods Harbour on Sept. 7. It was the grand re-opening of the community playground, first opened in 1993 through volunteer efforts led by Becky Lou Brannen, president of the Clubhouse Playground Association. KATHY JOHNSON – Kathy Johnson “This is the second if not the third generation by now to enjoy the playground,” said Brannen. “My youngest is 30, he was only 2 the first time, so I thought it was time to do it again.” All new playing apparatuses and a new play surface of engineered wood fibre – recommended to aid in inclusion – has been installed at the playground. “A lot of the funding came from the live well challenges back in 2018,” said Brannen. “That got the ball rolling and then we did some fundraisers throughout the community but a lot of donations came from the live well challenges.” The Station Road Schooner, so named by popular community vote, is the centrepiece of the…
