According to preliminary information rom the Sûreté du Québec, the major crimes unit has opened an investigation to shed light on the events leading up to his death. The fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Silex St. While firefighters were combatting the fire, a member of the Boischatel / L’Ange-Gardien fire department was seriously injured. SQ spokesperson Béatrice Dorsainville said the man was transported a hospital but succumbed to his injuries overnight. All the occupants of the residence were safely removed. The building was a total loss, and relief organizations were mobilized to help those who lost their homes. The city said in a statement that the victim was a volunteer firefighter in his 40s, but did not reveal his identity because the family had not all been informed yet.
