Gamecocks Take on No. 5 UVA in NCAA Super Regionals – University of South Carolina Athletics

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 13 South Carolina men’s tennis team (18-8, 8-6 SEC) faces ACC Championship runner-up No. 5 Virginia on the road in the NCAA Super Regionals on Friday, May 8 at 5:00 p.m. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., where the eight teams compete for the national championship, May 14-17. Gamecock Notables South Carolina’s path to its sixth consecutive Super Regional included a 4-0 sweep of Richmond and 4-1 takedown of No. 16 Michigan State last week at home. Against the Spiders, the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairs in addition to Lucas da Silva, Sean Daryabeigi and Atakan Karahan singles’ efforts carried the team to a sweep in the first round of the NCAA tournament. In similar fashion, the Gamecocks clinched the doubles point against the Spartans to open the second-round match. Daryabeigi and Max Stenzer went 2-0 in doubles on the weekend as the pair defeated MSU’s No. 2 duo 6-4, while da Silva and Paul Barbier Gazeu secured the first point of the match in a 7-5 showing.
