Gonzalez Named SLC Men’s Golfer of the Week – UTRGV Athletics

Texas Rio Grande Valley Athletics “PEACE & LOVE” —COACH LEW HILL RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Southland Conference (SLC) announced on Thursday that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s golf senior Esteban Gonzalez was named SLC Men’s Golfer of the Week.   Gonzalez is off to a fast start this fall, posting back-to-back record-book performances and accumulating a 69.5 scoring average across six rounds at the JT Poston Invitational and Bayou City Collegiate.   Gonzalez finished in a tie for 21st at the JT Poston Invitational with a three-round score of 209, which included a five-under 66 opening round.   Gonzalez bested that performance at the Bayou City Collegiate, carding a three-round score of 208 on the course that had a par of 216.   Gonzalez finished in a tie for third, the best placement of his career, and finished ahead of all SLC golfers at the tournament, a field which included UTRGV, Houston Christian, Lamar, and UIW.   His scores of 208 and 209 both landed in the program record book for lowest 54-hole individual score, ranking tied for 14th and 20th, respectively.   Five of Gonzalez’s six rounds across the two tournaments this fall
