HELP : Editing two photos side by side for YouTube Thumbnail

Hi everybody, Total newbie here, here’s my problem :  I’ve been trying to make a youtube thumbnail where there is some text and colored background on the left, and a picture on the right. One image is 1980*1080 and the other is 2000*1333, and I can’t make them fit together. I’ve spent the past couple days trying to find a tutorial that could teach me how to do that but I don’t even know the right terms to express my request. I’ve heard about cropping, but didn’t really understand how it works and don’t know if that applies to what I need to do. Also I don’t have photoshop and am using photopea for now. If anyone could teach me how to do it or send me a link to a tutorial that could, I’d highly appreciate it.
