WhatsApp believes that a messenger vulnerability (CVE-2025-55177) may have already been exploited in combination with an iOS vulnerability (CVE-2025-43300). Apple has already addressed the iOS security issue by releasing iOS version 18.6.2 on August 20. According to the company, the affected versions include WhatsApp for iOS prior to version 2.25.21.73, WhatsApp Business for iOS prior to version 2.25.21.78 and WhatsApp for Mac prior to version 2.25.21.78. For users unsure whether they have installed the secure iOS version, this can be checked under “Settings/General/Software Update,” where updates can also be initiated if necessary. To check which version of WhatsApp is installed on an iPhone or iPad, users can go to “Settings/Help” within the app. If an insecure version is still installed, you can open the App Store, tap on “My Account” or on your profile picture at the top and scroll down to view pending updates and version notes. From there, you can tap “Update” next to WhatsApp
