Irish Referee At Centre Of Mack Hansen Incident Sends Damning Message To IRFU On LinkedIn

Former Irish rugby official Chris Busby has sent a pointed message to the IRFU, criticising the organisation for their lack of support in recent months ahead of his retirement. Busby was at the centre of a controversial saga at the turn of the year, one which would see him opt to retire from refereeing. The incident centred on comment made by Ireland winger Mack Hansen after Connacht’s loss to Leinster back in December. On that occasion, the 27-year old would question the officiating in the game and suggest that it was just the latest in a long line of poor refereeing performances that had affected the province. Busby was the referee in that game, with the Antrim native reportedly subjected to quite a bit of online abuse in the aftermath of the fixture. He would then decide to retire in the weeks following this incident. Mack Hansen would ultimately receive a three-match ban as a result of his comments.
