The Irmo planning commission is set to meet June 8 to consider a luxury apartment proposal near I-26 as developers seek rezoning. IRMO, S.C. — The Town of Irmo is considering a proposed 300-unit luxury apartment complex just off Columbiana Drive near Exit 102-A on Interstate 26. Developers are asking the town to rezone approximately 22 acres from general commercial to residential to allow for the project. According to plans presented to the town, the development would feature Class-A multi-family apartments with amenities including a clubhouse, fitness center, swimming pool, and dog park. The complex would also connect to Battery Road, providing residents with two entrances and exits to the property. Town officials say apartment development has largely occurred outside Irmo town limits in recent years. “There’s been a lot of apartment growth along Lake Murray Boulevard, but most of that is outside the town limits in unincorporated Lexington County,” said Doug Polson with the Town of Irmo. “This would be the first large apartment complex built inside the Town of Irmo in about seven or eight years.” Developers say the proposed Columbiana Drive project would consist of market-rate units, unlike the proposed Shady Grove Apartments project that has previously
