Is Twitter Down? X Users Suffer Global Outage – Newsweek

Users of the social media service X reported issues on Thursday morning, according to an outage tracker. Downdetector reported a sharp rise in users reporting problems at around 3 a.m. ET. The cause of the apparent outage was not immediately clear. Issues were widespread, with users in the United States, India, South America and parts of Europe among those reporting problems. In the United States, problems seemed to peak at around 3.20 a.m. with more than 25,000 complaints, before appearing to drop off again by around 3.30 a.m. Heat maps during the incident showed problems being reported in Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, New York, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. One Downdetector user said: “Anyone having trouble posting? Mine keep failing,” another added: “I can’t view any tweets.” Newsweek reached out to X in an email sent outside of regular working hours for comment. X is owned by billionaire Elon Musk, who acquired the company for around $44 billion, then Twitter, in 2022 and later rebranded it. The social media site is yet to provide an explanation for Thursday’s reported issues on any of its official channels. It is not the first time that users have reported problems in recent months.
