WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The owner of Ives Hill Country Club says he has withdrawn his application to rezone a portion of his Watertown property. In a news release, Jake Johnson said he made the decision after what he described as “an overwhelming outpouring of financial support over the weekend from local neighbors, members, and friends.” Johnson had sought to rezone the clubhouse property so its restaurant could operate separately from the golf course even if the course closes. The city’s planning commission opposed the zone change. Community response “With this newfound community backing, the country club has secured the necessary foundation to preserve its current footprint and carry on its long-standing traditions. The entire property will remain dedicated to its existing operations without the need for subdivision or commercial rezoning at this time,” the news release said. Leadership for 2027 season Johnson also announced that Shannon Exford will be running both the restaurant and golf operations for the 2027 season. “We look forward to welcoming everyone back to an unchanged, revitalized Ives Hill,” Johnson said.
