NEW YORK — Keith Hernandez is going to bat for the Mets’ Pete Alonso.Hernandez, an SNY commentator and former Mets star first baseman in his own right, defended Alonso against rumors that popped up last season suggesting the slugger was a problem in the clubhouse.“I don’t know where that was coming from,” Hernandez said Thursday at a Gold Glove fan event at the MLB Flagship Store in Midtown.“I don’t have a great feel of the clubhouse, because the clubhouses today are so big and they’ve got that one extra room where we we’re not allowed,” Hernandez continued. “It’s not like the old days where you can mingle with the players, but Pete’s a good teammate. I thought it was kind of mean-spirited.
