Arlington Soccer Club in Portarlington have submitted a planning application to Laois County Council to demolish their existing clubhouse to make way for the construction of a new one. The proposed new clubhouse is intended to provide an increased number of changing rooms and a flexible multi-purpose space which will allow the facility to accommodate a wider range of club activities and community use. According to the soccer club, the development aims to provide a “modern, safe and fit-for-purpose facility that responds to the club’s current and anticipated future needs.” They argue: “The proposal represents an opportunity to replace an existing facility with a purpose-designed clubhouse that is better suited to the club’s present and future requirements, while continuing to support its important role within the local community.” The design of the new clubhouse has given particular consideration to the needs of children and young people using the facility.
