My vocabulary is not large enough to describe the range of emotions I feel when I see the Dr. Amy Acton attack ad from candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign. Candidate Ramaswamy has taken ownership of the ad, and reports indicate his campaign has issued another $4 million to keep the ad running in media outlets across Ohio. Vice President JD Vance has stated “politics is a tough business.” While I agree with this statement, I question when a “tough campaign” crosses the line to sheer cruelty. Candidate Ramaswamy’s campaign has willingly exploited the sexual abuse of a child in order to win votes and to potentially break and humiliate a female. While this ad exhibits abhorrent behavior, Dr. Acton has risen above with strength and grace, the qualities she will use to govern Ohio. To paraphrase Maya Angelou, “Believe people when they show you who they are.” We Ohioans see you, Dr. Acton, and candidate Ramaswamy, I see you.
