A couple years back, the DEC changed spring fishing regulations for anglers statewide. The one that was probably the most exciting was a catch-and-release season for the majority of fisheries. As always, make sure you check a regulations guide before heading out to your favorite fishing hole. What this means to local inland anglers is that we can chase bass year-round — the special catch-and-release season using artificial bait and putting bass right back in the water — runs from Dec. 1 through opening day of the regular season (third Saturday in June). Remember this: We are currently in a catch-and-release season so all regulations must be abided by. While there a few days left in the spring gobbler-chasing season in our part of turkey country, the spring also means time for big, fat bass. After a long winter, most of us can’t wait for the time to start slinging baits and ripping lips.
