MCMC said it is looking into the complaints received and has referred the relevant cases to Meta for clarification and appropriate action. The Commission clarified that account compromise and account blocking are distinct matters. It explained that accounts taken over by ‘irresponsible parties’ may be misused for scams, spam or activities that breach WhatsApp’s terms of service, which can subsequently result in the accounts being blocked by the platform. Affected users were advised to use WhatsApp’s official channels to recover or appeal their accounts, to refrain from sharing verification codes or security PINs, to enable the Two‑Step Verification feature, and to avoid suspicious links or applications. MCMC also warned the public to be cautious of parties offering account recovery services in exchange for money, personal information or verification codes.
