The Food Happenings page was created about three years ago and just surpassed 20,000 followers. HOUSTON — As America celebrates its 250th birthday this year, KHOU 11 is highlighting everyday Americans doing extraordinary things through the “America 250: Red, White & YOU” series. One of those Americans is a Houston area Facebook food critic who has quietly turned her social media presence into a lifeline for local restaurants. Ashley Brasher created the “Food Happenings” page on Facebook in 2023. She quietly visits restaurants around southeast Texas, primarily north of Houston. While her page is online, it is having a very real impact for several small businesses. Brasher posts detailed reviews of the establishments she visits, evaluating them in several different categories. “Food quality, customer service, cleanliness of the restaurant, parking, everything that you could think of as a customer,” Brasher said. “I’m very honest.” As her audience has grown, Brasher is beginning to step out from behind the anonymity.
