Men’s Soccer Bested by Rider – Canisius University Athletics

Four different Rider players scored goals, as the visiting Broncs defeated Canisius 4-1 in Metro Conference men’s soccer action Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.   Ryan Vaubel accounted for the lone tally in the first half, as Jacobo Cruz, Michael Holliday, and Gavin Faracchio accounted for the Broncs’ other three goals in the contest’s second half. Marius Helias started in net for Rider (5-2-1, 1-1 Metro) and made one save.   Senior Gael Arceo  scored the Golden Griffins’ lone goal in the game’s 74th minutes on a corner kick. Graduate goalkeeper Preston Harold made the start in net for Canisius (1-7 0-2 Metro) and posted seven stops.   The Broncs’ attack struck early, just nine minutes into the contest, as Axel Lucas played a through-ball to the foot of Drew Heil, who then found Vaubel at the back post, where he slotted the ball into the net to give Rider the 1-0 lead.   Rider would take its 1-0 lead into halftime before scoring just nine minutes into the second half.
