WHEELING, W.Va. — A fatal car wreck 18 years ago changed Heather Miller’s family forever — and set in motion a decision that would save lives far beyond their own. After the crash, Miller’s family learned she had checked the box to become an organ donor. Her mother, Jody Miller, said that once Heather was declared brain-dead, “she was that hero and she ended up saving four complete strangers lives. She donated her heart, both her kidneys and her liver. She also did tissue donation which enhanced another 50 60 lives.” Heather Miller’s story is one of three featured in “Gifted,” a docuseries focused on organ donation and transplantation. The series also highlights donors Maissa Abdallah and Maddie Grobmeier.
