Monmouth Men’s Basketball Announces Addition of Shammond Williams to Coaching Staff

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Shammond Williams, a talented coach with 13 years of collegiate coaching experience, has been named an Assistant Coach by Monmouth University Men’s Basketball Head Coach King Rice . In addition to his coaching experience, Williams was a member of the NBA for nine seasons and played professionally for 16 years.  “We are extremely excited to welcome Shammond to our staff,” said Rice. “He has an outstanding playing career, playing professionally for 16 years, including nine years in the NBA, and has built a strong career since retiring from playing. He brings a wealth of knowledge from both his playing and coaching experiences, which will be a great asset to our program.” Williams most recently served as the assistant coach and interim head coach at the University of Denver during the 2024-25 season. There he helped develop the Summit League Freshman of the Year in Sebastian Akins. Prior to his arrival in Denver, Williams spent three years on the Old Dominion women’s basketball staff. There he assisted the Monarchs to three consecutive 20-win seasons, highlighted by back-to-back WNIT appearances.
