‘Monster’ Seasons, Ted Bundy, Luigi Mangione, Ryan Murphy Netflix – TVLine

The new season of Monster hasn’t premiered yet, but Ryan Murphy is already looking for more gruesome stories to tell. The executive producer behind Netflix‘s hit true-crime anthology tells Variety that he’s already decided against doing a season about serial killer Ted Bundy. His reason? He doesn’t see a way to connect Bundy’s heinous acts to a larger social commentary. “When you look at those crimes, what are the themes there?” Murphy asks. “It doesn’t ask you any questions about society.” Another high-profile case, though, has caught his eye. Murphy admits he’s considered basing a future season of Monster on accused killer Luigi Mangione, who became a media sensation last year after being arrested for the murder of healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. (He’s currently awaiting trial.) Murphy says it’s still too early to tackle Mangione — “we know nothing about him” — but the EP adds, “We have a ‘maybe one day’ file.” The new season of Monster debuts this Friday on Netflix, with Charlie Hunnam starring as Ed Gein.
