A Nelson band has made it to the top three from 260 entrants across the country in this year’s Rockshop Bandquest. Distorted, a five-piece band of year 8 students from Nelson College for Girls Prep, took third place overall and won the award for best original song in the 2021 competition for primary and intermediate musicians. Their winning original song, Te Pai Ki Roto i a Koe, the second in their video performance, matches lead vocalist Alyahna Sanson-rejouis’ passion for Te Reo Māori with the band’s rock sound and impressed the judges. The competition was a little different from usual, with bands submitting videos and socially distanced performances.
