Victoria Gailey, who along with teammate Leah John became the first Nevada individual women’s golfer to qualify for an NCAA Regional since 2000, finished in a tie for 30th at the Stanford Region, which wrapped up Wednesday. John was tied for 58th in the 66-player field.Gailey shot a 3-over 75 to cap the 54-hole tournament at 7 over (rounds of 75-71-74). On Wednesday, Gailey had an up-and-down round that included an eagle, two birdies, five bogeys, a double bogey and nine pars. Her eagle came on the par-5, 490-yard seventh hole after landing on the green in two shots. Gailey had five birdies and an eagle in the tournament.John shot 20-over par over three days, including rounds of 72, 82 and 78. On Monday, her best round of the tournament, she had three birdies and five bogeys. It was the first NCAA Regional appearance for both golfers and first since Angie Yoon in 2000 (Nevada made a Regional as a team in 2001).The top-four teams in the 12-team Stanford Regional advanced to nationals, those being USC (16 under), LSU (7 under), Stanford (7 under) and Northwestern (12 over), which won a tiebreaker with Purdue for the final spot.
