AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas’ junior defender Éabha O’Mahony (A-va O-MON-ee) has been selected to the Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team (IRLWNT) squad for a pair of upcoming UEFA Nations League matches, the organization recently announced. As a result, O’Mahony will miss the next three Big 12 Conference matches for No. 14 Texas against No. 25 Texas Tech (Thursday, Sept. 21), No. 6 BYU (Monday, Sept. 25) and West Virginia (Thursday, Sept. 28). She is expected to return to the program for the Longhorns’ road contest at Kansas on Sunday, Oct. 1. O’Mahony is one of seven defenders on the 25-player squad that will play Northern Ireland on Saturday, Sept. 23 and then face off against Hungary on Tuesday, Sept. 26. “I’m really excited for Éabha,” said Texas head coach Angela Kelly. “Any time any of our student-athletes have the opportunity to represent their home countries, we are fully supportive.
