No. 19/10 Track and Field Preview: Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 19/10th ranked Longhorns return to Mike A. Myers Stadium for the final time this 2024-25 outdoor season to host 16 programs for the Texas Invitational. The two-day meet will begin Thursday afternoon and will conclude Friday afternoon. The competition: No. 22/NR Arizona State, NR/No. 6 Baylor, Franciscan, Houston, Incarnate Word, Midwestern St., North Texas, Northern Colorado, SMU, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern, Texas State, No. 10/12 Texas Tech, University of Victoria, UTSA and Wisconsin Texas Record Holders: Could Texas be the new hurdle U? The Longhorns are showing out in the short and long-distance hurdles with Kendrick Smallwood breaking his own program record just three weeks after setting it in Gainesville, Fla., at the Tom Jones Invitational. He now holds the UT record with a time of 13.26 and still leads the NCAA with his wind-aided time of 13.07. On the women’s side, Akala Garrett broke Raasin Mcintosh’s 21-year record with a time of 53.73 in the 400-meter hurdles. She’s the third-fastest runner in the NCAA this season and ranks ninth all-time in NCAA history.
