Santiago, R.D. – The National Police, through the Cybercrime Directorate (DICAT) and the Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim), arrested Marlon José Pérez, accused of benefiting from the sum of 36,500 pesos deposited in his bank account, the result of a scam committed through the WhatsApp social network. According to the complaint, the scammers pretended to be friends of the victim and promised to send her a box containing 18 cell phones, a tank, and a suitcase, in exchange for a cash payment. Pérez was arrested on Bartolomé Colón Avenue in the city of Santiago, under warrant No. 0029-MARCH-2024, issued by the coordinating judge of the Instruction Courts of the National District. The preliminary report states that the money was deposited into the detainee’s account, a fact that directly links him to the alleged fraud, dated 04/17/2023. The apprehended person will be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal purposes.
