Scotland fan walks 3,000 miles across America to and raise awareness for mental health

(WJAR) — With World Cup matches set to begin in Foxborough in just a few days, thousands of Scottish supporters have traveled across the Atlantic to cheer on their team. Most members of Scotland’s famous “Tartan Army” arrived by plane. But one fan took a much longer route. Craig Ferguson has spent more than 100 days walking across the United States, covering nearly 3,000 miles on foot, all while wearing a traditional kilt. Now, after crossing the country from Los Angeles, Ferguson finds himself just one state away from his final destination: Boston. “You know, three thousand miles, he’s walking a continent,” said fellow Tartan Army supporter Mike MacGregor. “How mentally strong do you have to be to get up every day knowing you’re going to put your body through the pain barrier?” For Ferguson, the journey has always been about more than soccer. “The mental health part of it, that challenge is the beating heart of it,” Ferguson said. “It’s the reason behind every single step that I take.” The inspiration for the cross-country walk comes from a deeply personal place. “My best friend back home, his father took his own life about seven years ago, and that’s kind
