Photo: CNY CentralHannibal, N.Y. — While the state of New York is looking to take action against social media companies, several local school districts are taking it a step further.Many have announced they will file a lawsuit against social media companies like Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube for the emotional distress the sites have caused in and out of the classroom.CNY Central spoke to superintendents about what they say is a crisis in the classroom.When talking to several school districts that have joined litigation against social media companies, they say students have become so addicted to what’s on their screen instead of what’s at the front of the classroom.At least four school districts of Oswego, Mexico, Hannibal, and East Syracuse Minoa have discussed the idea of possibly suing social media companies.When we talked to the Mexico Central School District Superintendent Dr. Donna Runner, she said her district is seeking financial compensation and will use it to make new classes to help students handle the stress of social media amongst
