Sheriff’s Office looking for additional victims in tool theft investigation using online marketplace

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on multiple charges and recovered stolen tools following a theft-by-deception crime spree that attempted to use Facebook Marketplace to sell the stolen items. On July 10, 2025, the Sheriff’s Office took a report from an employee at a Clackamas interior-supply store about a “theft by deception” resulting in the loss of thousands of dollars’ worth of tools. The employee reported that someone had called the interior-supply business on July 9th, posing as an employee of a drywall company. The caller used the drywall company’s account number to purchase over $6,300 of tools over the phone. The fraudulent caller then told the employee that the people picking up the tools would use a verbal “password” because the caller “didn’t trust anyone.” Later that day, a man and a woman arrived at the store, said the password, picked up the tools, and left in a grey-colored, four-door Chevrolet Bolt hatchback with Washington State license plates (surveillance photo attached). The employee called the drywall company to double check the sale and learned that the drywall company had not made the purchase. The employee then contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report the theft.
