St Johnsville woman accused of choking, dragging victim in domestic incident – WNYT.com

ST. JOHNSVILLE, N.Y. (WNYT) — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said an 18-year-old St. Johnsville woman was charged after allegedly choking a person and dragging them with her vehicle. Investigators said deputies were sent early Aug. 7 to an address in the village of St. Johnsville for a reported domestic dispute. The Sheriff’s Office said Alyssa Walters-Newton, was physically fighting with another person in an apartment. Walters-Newton is accused of choking the person. Investigators also determined the fight continued outside, where the Sheriff’s Office said Walters-Newton fled in a motor vehicle. According to investigators, the victim was dragged a short distance while Walters-Newton was leaving, causing injuries that required treatment at the hospital. Walters-Newton was later found in the city of Amsterdam and taken into custody with help from the Amsterdam Police Department. Walters-Newton was charged with second-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, according to a news release. She was arraigned before Justice Dye in St. Johnsville Town Court and sent to the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.
