Taylor Wimpey Helensburgh: concerns persist over 300-home development plans

A computer-generated view of part of the proposed development A FORMAL application for more than 300 new houses in Helensburgh is expected within days – though many in the town remain less than convinced by the proposals. Developer Taylor Wimpey hopes to submit plans for 307 houses at Helensburgh Golf Club this month, and is hoping for a decision from Argyll and Bute Council by early next year. The firm held the second of its public consultation events via Zoom on Friday, July 30 with more than 30 people attending. The proposals, which have been in the pipeline for some years but were only made public in January, also feature a redeveloped golf course, replacing holes which will be lost if the proposed houses are approved, and the building of a new clubhouse to replace the existing one, which is earmarked for demolition. During Friday’s event, 42 per cent of those attending indicated support for the golf course plans (though only 21 per cent indicated disapproval), 50 per cent backed the new clubhouse (15 per cent against), and 52 per cent approved of the housing proposals (22 per cent against).
