Beyond the challenges of the pandemic, the year 2020 has brought a whole host of wacky events, both big and small. One on Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium was certainly on the small end in the grand scheme of things, but it was weird nevertheless. Late in the third quarter of the Utah Utes’ season opener against the USC Trojans — an eventual 33-17 Utah loss — ESPN’s television cameras literally went out, leaving fans and even commentators Dave Flemming and Rod Gilmore, who were working the game from their homes, unable to see the action on the field. As you might expect, Twitter users had some great reactions as the whole deal was unfolding.
