MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – On this day in 2005, a simple video helped launch a global phenomenon. Jawed Karim uploaded the very first video to YouTube, a short clip titled Me at the Zoo. Filmed in front of the elephant exhibit at the San Diego Zoo, the video is less than 20 seconds long, but has now racked up more than 380 million views. Just a year later, the platform’s rapid growth caught global attention, leading Google to purchase YouTube for 1.65 billion dollars, marking the start of a new era in online video.
