Trainee nurse on Snapchat moments before killing mum crossing road – Leeds Live

A trainee nurse was on Snapchat seconds before she hit and killed a beloved mother with her car in a horror crash. Rumeesa Ahmed, 27, was travelling home from a night shift on the A647 at Stanningley Road on February 22, 2023, when she hit Athira Anilkumar Laly Kumari. Leeds Crown Court heard on Friday, April 25 there was evidence that Ahmed, of Princeville Street in Bradford, had used Snapchat around 39 seconds before hitting Ms Kumari, who was crossing the dual carriageway at the time. Prosecutor Jessica Strange said Ahmed was also travelling 20mph over the 40mph speed limit before hitting Ms Kumari, and then hit a man who was stood at a bus stop. She said: “It was just before 8.30am and the deceased was crossing the road at the pedestrian crossing…She [Ahmed] collided with her and then the car veered off the road and collided with a bus stop where a man had been waiting. A forensic collision investigator prepared a report and the report’s conclusion was that it was the defendant’s standard of driving that caused the collision.” It was said Ms Kumari – who had left her husband and one-year-old daughter at home in India
