Troopers arrest 4 on gun and drug charges after vehicle pursuit. | NYSP Newsroom

On April 29, 2022, troopers in Rochester attempted to stop a 2021 GMC Terrain for a seatbelt violation in the city of Rochester.  The vehicle failed to comply and fled through multiple city streets and entered the town of Gates for a short period.   During the pursuit, a loaded 9 mm handgun was thrown from the vehicle along with a loaded magazine.  The occupants also threw out a small bag of cocaine.  The pursuit came to an end when the suspects vehicle struck an uninvolved vehicle and a police vehicle.  Three adults and one juvenile,(age 16), were taken into custody after a brief struggle. The driver of the Vehicle, Detaji Parris, age 24, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, 2 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, for high capacity magazines, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, for a prior conviction, Assault 2nd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. Passenger, Monzellius Sims, age 22, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, 2 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree for high capacity magazines, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree for a prior conviction, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree.
