Deepfake enables people to put another person’s face over someone else’s, effectively creating a digital clone of that person. While these deepfakes have telltale signs, this has not stopped irresponsible individuals from making pornography of celebrities, influencers, and even ordinary people. Twitch has announced that they will be cracking down on deepfake pornography effective immediately. This decision was made in light of a recent controversy involving a Twitch streamer who was caught using a website that produces deepfake pornography of the streamer’s fellow streamers. Despite issuing a public apology, the offending streamer received brickbats from the Twitch community.
