COAL TOWNSHIP – The Northumberland County Coroner is now ruling a SCI Coal Township inmate’s death this week as a homicide. County coroner James Kelley said Thursday he ruled the death involving 50-year-old Ronnie Brooks was caused by ‘blunt force head injuries and strangulation’ and the manner of death as a homicide. This comes after an autopsy was performed Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Kelley says the investigation is continuing and no further information will be released at this time. We last told you Brooks was found unresponsive in his cell Tuesday and was later pronounced dead after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Brooks was serving a two-to-five year sentence for a gun charge and had been at the facility since May 2018.
