Victorian town loses beloved, historic sporting hub in 'suspicious' fire – ABC News

A community in the Gippsland town of Fish Creek is in shock following a fire that has destroyed its sports hub. Firefighters were called to the Fish Creek Football Netball Club in Falls Road just after 5am on Saturday.On arrival, the crews found the building well alight, the Country Fire Association (CFA) said, and made further requests for firefighting support with 30 firefighters and nine trucks coming from surrounding towns and districts. About 30 firefighters fought a blaze on Saturday morning at the Fish Creek Football Netball Club, in Gippsland, Victoria.(Facebook: Fish Creek Kangaroos)The blaze took an hour to bring under control, with crews still extinguishing hot spots afterwards, the CFA said. Fire Rescue Victoria has also assisted with an aerial appliance to reach flames in the upper storey. No one was in the building at the time of the fire. Police said the cause of the fire was suspicious and arson chemists were investigating the scene.
