2 hours ago Mathew Barzal just made his case for Goal of the Year. The Islanders center dropped jaws with a highlight-reel goal on Saturday afternoon against the Sabres, going between the legs for a shot that beat Buffalo goalie Carter Hutton to tie the game and send hockey twitter into a frenzy. The former first-round pick shook off a defender in the attacking zone after winning a race for the loose puck, skated between the circles and faked a backhand shot attempt before dragging the puck, and his stick, between his legs and tucking a shot inside the right post for an improbable goal. It was Barzal’s ninth goal on the season, but certainly the most memorable.
