Wave.tv owns and operates roughly two dozen media brands that create and curate content from scores of sports—both mainstream and ultra-niche—across the four of the most popular social platforms: Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and Facebook. The company reports that roughly 80% of its viewers are between 13 and 34 years old. After weathering the pandemic, Wave.tv made a splash with a $32 million Series A round in 2020 to further fuel its acquisition of rights, building out a portfolio that includes everything from Major League Baseball to World Strongest Man competitions. In March, it partnered with FanDuel as a beachhead in the sports betting market. Wave.tv’s SVP strategy and partnerships Greg Bobolo, whose experience includes seven years as CEO of SendtoNews, spoke with SportTechie about its partnerships and plans, and where things stand in the industry from a fan engagement standpoint. How have viewing habits changed during the COVID pandemic? Viewing habits and consumption, certainly, amongst this young Gen Z/Millennial fan base are at an all-time high.
